Christmas is the Hope for Everyone!

Christmas-Bethlehem-WallpapersI don’t think many people would disagree with me when I say that the Christmas season is a very special time of the year.  After all, Andy Williams sang that it is “the most wonderful time of the year.”  Also, there have been many studies showing that people, in general, are happier during this time of the year.  But what is at the core of the season to make it so special and to make people happier?

Honestly, I have never given this question much thought bacause, superficially, the reasons seemed obvious.  Is it the playing of classic holiday jingles and tunes on the radio?  Is it the abundance of cookies and decorations?  Is it the time off from work to spend more time with our family?  I think most of us enjoy these things (I mean, who doesn’t enjoy hearing the theme from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” on the radio?!).  These were some of the answers that, in the past, I would have given to my intial question.  However, more and more I have found these things to be insufficient to bring real and lasting happiness at Christmas.  So, what is at the core of Christmas that makes it so special and brings people happiness?

It is a gift; a present (and I am not talking about a tie, wallet or socks, etc).  This gift is for everyone.  It is a gift that every person in our world needs (meaning, for you shoppers out there, one-size-fits-all).  This gift brings not only happiness, but it also brings hope and peace.  But what single gift can give every person on our planet hope and peace?

The gift is the birth of Jesus of Nazareth in the small town of Bethlehem.  He was born solely for the purpose of dying so that he would be raised and have eternal life, and in doing this, may offer the same to each and every person in our world.  Knowing and trusting in Jesus will give us happiness, peace, and hope that will last, not only during the holiday season, but for every day of our lives.  Glory to God in the highest!

Merry Christmas!

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 (NIV).
