Here Comes the Boom…

My son, Carter David, is an amazing young man.  He is smart and fun, and so thoughtful and caring to others (most of the time!).  I really enjoy spending time with him.  Our father and son time, known to us as “Dude Dates”, often revolve around eating a greasy cheeseburger and going to a ball game.  Tonight was our first trip to the movies without Dana and Emma Grace, just the 2 of us.  Our selection, after I evaluated the possible films at Focus on the Family, was “Here Comes the Boom” (a great movie, starring Kevin James).  We had a great time with many laughs, and now I expect a fair number of wrestling matches while listening to “Boom” on the iPad (literally booming, no doubt!).

I know that spending time with me is very important for him.  He needs me to teach him how a man of God thinks, speaks, and acts.  But this shared time is needed from me as well.  As an adult, it’s easy to get bogged down by life’s chores (work, bills, etc) and become negative.  He shows me innocence and happiness and how to enjoy life, even little things like ice cream sundaes.  Of the fruits of the spirit spoken of in the Bible, I think Joy is the one we adults often overlook, and it’s our children that try to teach us about it.
